Timber products firm creates new jobs in expansion plan

A WORCESTERSHIRE timber roof truss manufacturer has embarked on a new expansion plan that has already created 12 jobs.
Redditch-based Scotts Timber Engineering was established just two years ago but has undergone significant growth in that time. The business has benefited from the support of established family firm, Scotts of Thrapston, a leading supplier of joinery and timber engineering products.
Richard Evans, managing director of STE, said the popularity of timber in construction had led to a significant increase in output in the past 12 to 18 months and the rapid growth of the business. The new manufacturing facility will ensure the company can continue to sustain growth.
He said: “At STE we specialise in taking the benefits of environmentally friendly timber as a construction material and exploiting its strengths to achieve 21st century design solutions, such as roof trusses and metal web joists.
“Many housebuilders and construction firms are enjoying the benefits of timber in construction and since day one we have been busy with orders.
“In the last twelve months alone, construction output in private housing has seen double digit growth. This is in line with our forecast and has meant that we are on track with our expansion plans resulting in the creation of a brand new facility in Redditch.”
The new premises will be based at Washford Industrial Estate on Heming Road and will see the installation of specialist timber manufacturing machinery such as table presses and computer driven truss systems.
Ten manufacturing jobs have been created together with an additional designer and trainee designer to cater for the company’s growth.
“This site of the new facility is over two acres in size with the factory covering 15,000 sq ft, meaning the company can continue to grow as our order book grows and capacity can be quickly stepped up as the need arises,” he added.
“The ability to make such a significant investment at this time is testament to the relationships the STE team has already established with our current clients. In a short space of time we have established ourselves as one of the country’s leading truss suppliers and we will continue to lead the way as we head into the next chapter in our company’s growth.”
The plan is to get the machinery and equipment installed throughout December with the factory up and running by January 2015.
