Co-op convenience store to anchor Erdington mixed-use scheme

A NEW Co-op convenience store is set to be the anchor unit of a small mixed-use development in Erdington.

Central England Co-operative currently operates out of smaller premises at Marsh Hill and the success of its operation there means it needs larger premises with dedicated parking facilities.

Brooke Smith Planning has successfully gained planning permission for the shop, which will be at Marsh Lane and will comprise a near-3,000 sq ft sales area. The plans also include separate premises for a funeral care operation, which the Co-op plans to relocate to a more modern building, and two homes.

The BSP team also led and co-ordinated a range of consultants to address issues relating to transport, noise and ecology. They also ensured the final designs fitted well within the existing street scene and addressed all existing conditions relating to the site.

Senior planner Beth Mullan said: “The scheme will give a balanced mix of retail, commercial and residential uses, and therefore ensures that these uses are kept within the local area and continue to serve the local community, while offering an improved customer experience.”
