Landslip causes severe disruption to Chiltern rail services

RAIL USERS planning to travel to London on the Chiltern Mainline service are likely to face severe disruption to their journeys the line operator has said due to a major landslip.

The Mainline remains blocked between Banbury and Leamington Spa and while Chiltern rail services between Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone are running they are subject to delays.

The company said trains were running between: – London Marylebone and Banbury – Leamington Spa and Birmingham Moor Street – Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon. However, there will be a replacement bus service between Banbury and Leamington Spa.

Chiltern said passengers travelling between London and the West Midlands may use Virgin Trains and London Midland services between London Euston and Birmingham New Street as Chiltern Railways tickets would be valid on these services, and on London Underground connections between Marylebone and Euston.

The line will remain closed between Banbury and Leamington Spa all day today and it is possible the closure may stay in place for several days while the slippage is cleared and repair work is carried out.
