St Modwen green-lighted on two local schemes

BIRMINGHAM developer St Modwen has been given the all-clear by planners to develop out two West Midlands schemes.

It has secured the go-ahead to develop further employment space at its Burton Gateway Industrial Park on the A38 and to start work at its new Nunnery Park employment-led scheme in Worcester.

The extension of Gateway Industrial Park will make it one of the largest industrial and warehouse developments in the Midlands.

East Staffordshire Borough Council has granted St Modwen planning permission for an additional 230,000 sq ft of distribution and industrial space at the park – taking the total amount of planned employment space up to 1m sq ft.

St Modwen says its decision to apply for the extra space follows high levels of interest from major occupiers and marks a further vote of confidence in the improving Midlands market.

Ian Romano, senior development surveyor at St Modwen, said: “With outline planning consent already secured for 770,000 sq ft of employment space, work underway on a £1m dedicated A38 junction and the option of units as large as 400,000 sq ft, Burton Gateway is already attracting several enquiries from national and international occupiers.

“This extra land will boost the potential of Burton Gateway and create hundreds more jobs for local people.”

Nunnery Park, on the edge of Worcester, is a new scheme that has been given the go-ahead by Worcester City Council.

St Modwen has been granted outline planning approval for a 20 acre mixed-use development, which incorporates new business and employment units, trade counter units, business and industrial units, as well as a vehicle showroom, a family pub restaurant and a drive through restaurant.

Up to 500 jobs could be created on the completed scheme.

Nunnery Park lies between Junctions 6 and 7 of the M5.
