University awards recognise business excellence

THE University of Wolverhampton has celebrated business excellence in the region at its second Business Achievement Awards.

The awards, held at Molineux stadium, were specially designed and produced by University of Wolverhampton student Cindy Tran and given out in seven categories.

Business Innovation of the Year was won by Cannock-based Odour Services International while Enterprise-Rent-a-Car was named Graduate Employer of the Year.

Wolverhampton Wanderers was named as the Strategic Business Partner of the Year and Ian Powell, of PwC won the Alumnus of the Year: Leadership award.

Lisa Potts-Webb was Alumnus of the Year: Contribution to Society and Leirom Puno, of Telford-based Fabweld Steel Products was named Graduate Employee of the Year.

Guests at the event had the casting vote for the Graduate Start-up of the Year award which was won by Lucy Taylor, of Sensory Wise.

The Dudley Company, which was founded last year through the university’s SPEED Plus programme, raises awareness of sensory processing disorder (SPD) by providing expert advice, information and resources to families, schools and educators.

As well as a BAA trophy Ms Taylor also received £2,000 in cash and £1,000 worth of consultancy.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Oakes, said: “It was a fantastic celebration of the diverse range of businesses the University works with across the region and particularly the highlighted of the success of our graduates.

“All the nominees and winners have certainly made a huge contribution to the region’s business landscape.”
