St Modwen buys Defra site in Worcester

REGENERATION specialist St. Modwen has exchanged contracts for the purchase of a prominent 19 acre site in Worcester from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Located in a popular residential area, two miles south east of Worcester city centre, the sustainable site is on the A44 Whittington Road – the main arterial route leading to junction 7 of the M5.

Quinton-based St. Modwen is currently exploring a range of options for future development for the site. In the meantime, Defra continues to occupy its buildings on the site, although the government department will relocate upon completion.

Jonathan Green, development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “We’re currently exploring our options for this site, which is in an ideal location in terms of its proximity to the city centre, the railway station and the motorway network.

“This purchase from Defra further cements St. Modwen’s dedication to Worcester, where we’re working on progressing a number of different schemes.”

Also in the city, St. Modwen recently completed the construction of 25,000 sq ft of new employment space on a speculative basis at Great Western Business Park, and has submitted a planning application to build a further 60,000 sq ft.

It owns and manages the 275,000 sq ft Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, which has more than 90 occupiers, and Nunnery Way, a 19 acre site on which it is developing employment, showroom and leisure space.

On the residential side of its business, Gregorys Bank, a St. Modwen Homes’ development located just two miles from Worcester city centre, comprises a collection of two, three and four bedroom properties.
