Wasps buzzing as The Boss heads for Ricoh Arena

THE Boss – Bruce Springsteen – is set to make a triumphant return to Coventry’s Ricoh Arena this summer, it has been announced.

Springsteen, complete with the E Street Band, will rock the stage at the arena on Friday June 3.

The concert is a major coup for the city and underlines the ambitions of the arena’s owner, Wasps, to attract headline acts.

It will be the singer’s second time in Coventry following a triumphant concert three years ago when he performed to a crowd of near 38,000 at the same venue.

The tour comes in the wake of the release of ‘The Ties That Bind: The River’, the four-disc recording celebrating the 35th anniversary of Springsteen’s 1980 double-disc classic, The River.

David Armstrong, group chief executive of Wasps, said bringing world-class performers such as Springsteen to the arena was a major part of the rugby club’s plans for the future of the venue.

“Since we acquired the Ricoh Arena, we have been working hard behind-the-scenes to bring high-profile concerts to the Midlands and Bruce Springsteen is one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time,” he said.

“The fact Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are returning to the Ricoh Arena underlines how much they enjoyed themselves in Coventry.

“This is really exciting news and we are expecting another special night when we welcome visitors to the city from across the UK and the globe to watch Bruce Springsteen and his talented band rock the night away at the Ricoh Arena.”

Andy Gibb, managing director of the Ricoh Arena, said The River Tour was just one of a series of big music events coming to the venue this year.

The arena will also be hosting the MTV Crashes Coventry event on May 27 and 28 (line-up yet to be announced) and Rihanna’s Anti World Tour on June 25.
