Three West Midlands clubs face FA investigations into crowd trouble

ASTON VILLA and Birmingham City fans are to be investigated by the Football Association after coin-throwing incidents during this weekend’s matches.

The allegations come a week after West Bromwich Albion player Chris Brunt was hit by a coin that appeared to be thrown from his own team’s fans.

The FA said it was “looking into” the incidents in which Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland appeared to be targeted while playing against Aston Villa, and QPR players were also subject to objects being thrown as they celebrated a goal.

A Birmingham spokesman said: “If anybody is found to have thrown a coin, we will take the strongest possible action. As a club, we utterly condemn that sort of behaviour.

“We will be liaising with the relevant bodies, including West Midlands Police, to investigate such allegations.”

The clubs could be fined if the FA finds the allegations to be proven.
