Black Country manufacturer expands to facilitate growth

A BLACK Country manufacturer has expanded its operation in order to meet growing demand.

Cradley Heath-based Intervate, a leading manufacturer of wood pellets for use in renewable heating systems, has taken on additional premises to provide much-needed storage capacity.

Established in 2008, and originally based in Coventry, Intervate has enjoyed sustained growth over the last eight years with turnover now at £3.5m.

Soon after the business was launched, it became apparent that larger premises with modern warehousing facilities, good grid connections and accessible transport links would be vital in realising the potential growth of the business.

Three years ago the business made the move to its existing 18,000 sq ft base in Cradley Heath.

However, with the business undergoing rapid expansion there was soon a need for extra capacity so the finished goods could be stored.

A number of sites were considered, but when Intervate’s existing landlord decided to develop on land adjacent to its existing base, it presented itself as an ideal solution.

Julian Ackerley, director at Intervate, said: “Even after our move to Cradley Heath we knew we’d need additional space in order to sustain the growth that we’d enjoyed since day one.  When our landlord decided to develop the site next to our existing facility we realised that this could be prove an ideal solution as it would not only provide us with the chance to develop a high standard of warehousing, but its proximity to our existing site simplified things logistically.”

The firm was supported in both moves by law firm FBC Manby Bowdler, with Wolverhampton-based Andrew Wynne advising on the latest deal.

“Having worked with Andrew and the team at FBC Manby Bowdler for over six years, it was reassuring to have their support throughout this process,” added Mr Ackerley.

Mr Wynne said: “The team at Intervate deserve every success.  They are professional and embrace the opportunity to work with us collaboratively to achieve the desired outcome.

“Finding the right premises for their continued growth was not an overnight process but they remained focused, knew exactly what they wanted and as the results have demonstrated, Intervate has secured 8,000 sq ft of additional warehousing site that will support the business moving forward.”

Intervate is now hopeful of continued growth and is exploring the possibility of opening a second site, possibly around the Welsh Marches, within the next two years.
