Long delays on M6 this morning after accident

UPDATE 8:40am: All lanes have now reopened but congestion is reportedly stretching back to Stafford Services and traffic is very slow in the area.

MOTORISTS using the southbound M6 in Staffordshire face long delays this morning after a serious accident caused the closure of two lanes.

The accident happened between Junction 13 Stafford and Junction 12 Gailey when a vehicle left the carriageway. Lanes one and two are currently closed for recovery work.

There are long delays in the area, with queues stretching back to Junction at Stafford North. Highways England has said traffic conditions are not expected to return to normal until at least 10am.

In the meantime, drivers have been advised to avoid the motorway if they can.
