Travel Alert: Major disruption to West Coast Main Line services

RAIL commuters using the West Coast Main Line service are being warned of delays of up to 90 minutes on Virgin Trains West Coast services between London Euston and Glasgow Central.

A broken down engineering train near Carnforth is causing disruption to trains between Preston and Carlisle. Engineers are working to rectify the issue and move the train so that all lines can be reopened.

There is no firm estimate yet on how long this will last, but it is likely to continue until at least 5pm.  When the line reopens, trains may still be disrupted until the end of service.

Virgin Trains between London Euston / Crewe / Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central are all affected.

Virgin Trains has advised passengers not to travel if possible but has said that passengers booked to travel on today’s service will be able to use their ticket on this route tomorrow.
