Expanding menswear retailer among new stores at centre

RETAILERS New Look Men and Smiggle have taken space at intu Potteries shopping centre in Hanley.

It will be the seventh store – and the third at an intu shopping centre – for New Look Men, as the retailer continues to roll out its menswear strategy with its seventh store opening.

It is taking 3,250 sq ft, while children’s stationery store Smiggle is taking 1,400 sq ft.

New Look’s chief creative officer Roger Wightman said: “Menswear is a major area of growth for us and we’ve really developed our range so it’s now far more fashion forward, and we’re really excited to bring it to customers all across the UK, including Stoke-on-Trent.”

intu recently invested £20m at intu Potteries in its leisure and dining offer for customers and within the first six weeks of opening, the centre saw footfall increase by 28%.

Colin Flinn, regional director of intu, said: “Our national presence means we’re well placed to help retailers flourish across the UK. The addition of two new great new brands – New Look Men which is still a relatively new concept and Smiggle which is continuing its UK roll out plan – demonstrates our leading market position and distinctive approach to asset management.”

A H&M store will open in the centre this autumn while other retailers, including JD Sports, WH Smith, HMV and Pandora, have all invested in their stores.
