Development site bought for £40m city centre project

STUDENT accommodation group Unite has bought a development site in Birmingham where it plans to create a £40m development to house 600 students.
The Birmingham city centre site is next to an operational Unite building and very close to Aston University, and near to Birmingham City University.
Once built, it will increase the number of Unite beds in Birmingham to around 3,300 across five properties. Unite expects the project to be completed by 2019, subject to planning approvals.
Richard Simpson, managing director of property for Unite Students, said: “This central Birmingham site fulfils our criteria for growth and investment returns in a strong, regional location and we are delighted to have exchanged contracts to acquire it.
“Birmingham is a thriving university city and home to four Higher Education providers, offering a wide range of highly respected courses.”The contracts for the site have been exchanged on a subject to planning basis.
