Faithful+Gould’s latest work secures top honours in the West Midlands

THE Birmingham office of project management consultancy Faithful+Gould has seen three of its schemes in the West Midlands recognised with new awards.

At the West Midlands RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Awards 2016, the firm saw Phase 2 of its School Yard project in Harborne win the Residential Award.

The firm provided employer’s agent, quantity surveying and Construction Design Management (CDM) services on the contemporary new residential zinc-clad building, which includes 13 boutique one, two and three bedroom homes.

The modern design complements Phase 1 of the scheme, which includes the award-winning restoration of the Grade II Listed school and clock tower.

The consultancy, based in Holliday Street, worked with Neil Edginton’s EDG Property to create the contemporary new building.

Chair of the RICS judging panel, Richard Moxon said of the project, that has also won a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) West Midlands award: “The development has created a unique living environment which has appealed to occupiers in spite of the challengingly tight site. We expect this to be a popular development for years to come and a catalyst to further development locally.”

At the same awards The Curzon Building at Birmingham City University, another project on which Faithful+Gould played a leading role, was highly commended by the judges in The Design through Innovation category.

Part of the university’s City Centre Campus, the building provides a state-of-the-art home to its Business, English, Law and Social Sciences students.

“This is the second year running that our Midlands projects have been recognised at the RICS awards,” said Paul Doherty, director and head of operations at Faithful+Gould in the Midlands.

“I am hugely proud of everyone involved in the schemes. These accolades demonstrate our expertise in construction consultancy service delivery and rewards the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”

Elsewhere, a project collaborating with the University of Birmingham saw the firm enjoy double success at the 2016 West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards, held at the ICC in Birmingham.

The firm was commissioned through the University of Birmingham’s quantity surveying framework to provide quantity surveying services on the award-winning Chamberlain student residence scheme.  A £42m project, it is comprised of a 21-storey tower and three smaller blocks, offering high quality accommodation for the students.

Its contribution was recognised with the Best High Volume New Housing Development award.

Meanwhile, it was highly commended for its involvement with the Free-Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment (FACE) experiment at the University of Birmingham’s Institute of Forestry Research (BIFoR). This is a pioneering £10.4m project to design, supply and install a CO2 research facility in remote historic woodland.

The only one of its kind in the UK, Faithful+Gould provided quantity surveying services and worked with a single specialist contractor to deliver the FACE field facility, that will test the resilience of mature forest in a high carbon future.
