Town centre car park at reduced capacity following fire

A TELFORD shopping centre car park will be operating at reduced capacity for the rest of the week following a car fire.

The fire, which broke out on Saturday afternoon, damaged the third level of the multi-story facility, which serves the Southwater mixed-use centre.

Telford & Wrekin Council said the fire caused damage to the car park’s lighting and electrical wiring and until repairs were carried out and checked, a number of parking spaces could not be used.

The local authority said there were still parking spaces available on the lower floors (0-2) of the multi-storey, which would be available for public use.

“We hope that the car park will be back to its full capacity by Monday June 27 once the repairs are complete,” said the council in a statement.
