CWA appointed to £25m school-build

A £25m project to build a new secondary school in Staffordshire is being supported by civil and structural engineering consultancy CWA.

The Birmingham consultancy has been appointed to carry out the civil and structural engineering work on the new 1,440-place Branston Road High School in Tatenhill, Burton-upon-Trent.

Plans for the school have been given the green light by Staffordshire County Council, and the Department for Communities and Local Government has confirmed that the project can go ahead.

The new school is being designed and project managed by Stafford-based Entrust Educational. Entrust is an education specialist working in partnership with local authorities and academy trusts to provide specialist expertise on school environments,

The new eight-form secondary school will include secondary school provision for 1,200 pupils and sixth form provision for a further 240 pupils. There will also be a sports hall and car parking.

CWA, based in Lancaster House, was brought on board by contractors Seddon Construction which is building the new school on behalf of Staffordshire County Council, working with Entrust.

CWA director Steve Wedge said the consultancy was pleased to be contributing to a significant project.

“The new centre will fulfil a significant need for school place provision in the Burton-on-Trent area and will also provide valuable community facilities. This is a £25m investment in the future for local children, he said.
