Revellers urged to keep their cool as ice rink celebrates its birthday

TELFORD Ice Rink celebrates its 32nd birthday this weekend and to mark the occasion it is staging some special activities.

People can show off their skating skills between 1-3pm tomorrow (Saturday) and then between 1-3pm and 3.30-5pm on Sunday.

Best routines and selfies to the camera will be shown on the rink’s big screen.

For those looking for something different, there will also be Sumo Suit racing on ice.

Falling over on the ice will be a whole new experience in these suits as participants race around the ice trying to beat each other while remaining upright.

However, with all that padding, it won’t even hurt when you fall over – only your pride will be dented.

Saturday’s session will also feature a sing-a-long on ice, where singing along to the music will be positively encouraged.

The music continues on Sunday when resident DJ Paul Shuttleworth takes to the decks to provide a quality soundtrack to accompany every skater and spectator.

Cllr Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin’s cabinet member for Housing, Leisure and Health, said: “Telford Ice Rink remains a popular destination for both locals and visitors from further afield.

“We’re really proud of the facilities and have lots going on throughout the year to appeal to visitors of all ages and abilities so come along and help (us) celebrate the ice rink’s birthday.”
