Birmingham set for new gym after £2m investment

A FITNESS and gymnasium group is close to completing a £2m fit-out of new premises in Birmingham.

JD Gyms is set to move into the facility on Newtown Middleway, off the Aston Expressway – close to the Matalan / Dartmouth Circle roundabout in March.

The company, part of JD Sports Fashion group, is converting the 26,000sq ft Alcora Building into a three-floor fitness facility.

Originally scheduled to be an office complex, JD Gyms obtained planning permission to give the building a new lease of life as a gym last autumn.

Featuring over 200 pieces of new cardio, strength and functional fitness equipment, JD Gyms Birmingham will also offer male and female saunas, a ladies only gym, and the area’s largest free weights zone.  A large studio and spin studio will play host to over 300 classes a month.

The new fitness centre has also helped to create 15 new jobs.

Pam Young, director of Alcora Warren Investments, said: “We are excited to have reached the agreement to give this building an energetic new use. We look forward to seeing the transformation continue to take place and are pleased that our building will now assist the health and wellness of the local community.”
