Optical firm set to create 200 jobs after relocating to new base

OPTICAL retailer Specsavers is set to create 200 new jobs in Worcestershire with the completion of its new manufacturing and distribution centre in Worcestershire.
The company has transformed the former Romwire site in Stourport Road, Kidderminster after securing the land this time last year.
Simon Holloway, director of manufacturing and distribution at Specsavers said: “We needed larger premises after outgrowing our current site and the new facility will allow us to double our capacity and give us room to grow in the future.
“The new modern facilities will also allow us to provide a better working environment for our staff and a better service for our customers.”
The relocation has secured the jobs of existing employees, while the company now plans to phase in the new jobs gradually over the next few years with the programme due to complete in 2021.
Property firm Harris Lamb oversaw the sale of an 80,000 sq ft freehold turnkey between Specsavers and developer Revelan in January last year. With the new building now complete, Specsavers is already in occupation.
Harris Lamb director Charles D’Auncey, who oversaw the sale, said: “The new building is made up of two industrial units covering a total of 77,000 sq ft, enabling Specsavers to expand its operations to meet growing demand.
“Specsavers is the latest company to invest in siting a distribution centre in North Worcestershire, and to have such a high-profile manufacturing occupier confirming its commitment to the area is a great coup for the region.”
