Birmingham city centre ring road closed after accident

Part of Birmingham city centre’s main ring road remains closed this morning following an accident overnight.

The section of the A4540 Lawley Middleway is closed in both directions between Ashted Circus and Curzon Circus.

There are already (7.30am) reports of severe traffic congestion in the area around Dartmouth Middleway and B4132 Vauxhall Road – affecting A38 Aston Road.

As the rush-hour starts to build, drivers have been warned to try and avoid the area if possible or to allow extra time for their journeys.

Elsewhere, the A38 northbound is closed between Burton (A5121) and the A50 (exit for Derby) after a collision overnight involving a car which struck a lamp column.
