Go West for green technology opportunities

BIRMINGHAM businesses with a focus on sustainable technology are being invited to a meeting to hear about potential business opportunities in the United States.

Organised by the British American Business Council, part of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group and the Greater Richmond Partnership, one of the US’s inward investment consultancies, the breakfast seminar will discuss areas including solar energy, electric vehicles, energy conservation and off shore wind energy.

The sectors are all part of President Barack Obama’s $500bn stimulus package. Prime Minister David Cameron highlighted the importance of the measures during his speech to the CBI conference.

He said the President was “ramming home” the advantages of clean technology and the British government intended to do the same.

The £1bn Green Investment Bank and a commitment to developing wind energy technology were two of the few positives to emerge from the Government’s wide ranging Comprehensive Spending Review.

Cassie Muir, Executive Director at BABC said: “The US represents the UK’s largest single export market but companies need to understand the complexities of doing business in the country.”

The event, which takes place on November 2, will feature a workshop led by Virginia’s power and energy company, Dominion Resources, which will review US green technology opportunities.

The chamber said companies taking part will have the opportunity of one-to-one confidential meetings with representatives of both Dominion Resources and Greater Richmond Partnership to discuss further their individual needs.

The event takes place at the Hotel Du Vin in Church Street, Birmingham city centre. To register or for more information, businesses should email jnelson@babcmidlands.org.uk or telephone 0121 454 6171 ext.2208.
