Thomas Cook takes a trip with GO-SIM

GO-SIM, the Yorkshire company that provides pre-paid global SIM cards for mobile phones, has signed a deal with travel agent Thomas Cook.

Thomas Cook UK & Ireland is to offer pre-paid mobile phone SIM cards designed to save travellers money if they need to make or receive calls and texts from family and friends whilst they are abroad.

The partnership with York-based GO-SIM will see more than 80 of Thomas Cook’s biggest stores selling a pre-paid SIM card and is believed to be the first of its kind by a travel retailer on the high street.

The Thomas Cook GO-SIM International sim card offers savings of up to 85% off international calls, free incoming calls and texts in 75 countries, as well as unused airtime. The card costs £20 and includes £5 of airtime.

Pete Constanti, chief executive of mainstream travel at Thomas Cook UK & Ireland, said: “Our partnership with GO-SIM is just another way in which we’re leading the way on offering value for money to our holidaymakers.

“Following on from our innovative currency comparison boards to display our foreign exchange in our stores, GO-SIM cards will make life easier, ensuring that our customers don’t pay too much for mobile phone calls and won’t return home to find a big bill waiting for them.”

Under the GO-SIM system, calls and texts received are free.

Penny Roberts, international sales director at GO-SIM, said: “We’re delighted that Thomas Cook customers can now look forward to saving money on their mobile calls abroad.

“Staying in touch with friends and loved ones back home is really important to a lot of people, and buying a Thomas Cook GO-SIM card will enable them to do just that – at a fraction of the usual cost.”

GO-SIM received a further £250,000 investment from the Yorkshire and Humber Equity Fund last year following the regional venture capital fund’s investment in the company in 2007.
