Management deal secured for 68-home city residential scheme

Property management business Scanlans is expanding its portfolio in Leeds with an agreement to look after 68 energy-efficient homes at a scheme on the city’s South Bank, one of the largest city centre regeneration projects in Europe.

Work on the Ironworks development in Holbeck Urban Village is under way and is due to be completed in 2021.

The joint scheme by igloo Regeneration and PfP Capital will comprise 53 apartments and 15 town houses, alongside two ground-floor commercial units and parking.

Ironworks is being developed on the site of a former foundry and Victorian warehouse in an area which was once the heart of the city’s industrial past.

Every home will have access to outdoor space via private balconies, rooftop terraces, hidden gardens and public open spaces.

Esh Build has been appointed to do the construction work. Ironworks, designed by Leeds-based Nick Brown Architects, won an accolade at the 2019 National Housing Design Awards.

Holbeck Urban Village is already home to around 150 businesses and independent food and drink venues.

Honor Massarella, development director at igloo, said: “We’re aiming to create something really special at the Ironworks – beautiful homes designed for people who want to put down roots.

“The Ironworks is the natural next step in the Holbeck Urban Village neighbourhood, close enough to all the city centre has to offer and far enough to have its own distinct community feel.

“We know that the team at Scanlans care passionately about looking after our emerging community and welcome them to the team.”

Michael Willans, senior property manager at Scanlans’ Leeds office, said: “This appointment demonstrates the growing strength of our Leeds-based operation as we continue to win new business across the city.

“We are delighted to win the instruction at what will be a prominent residential block in the heart of the vibrant and evolving Holbeck Urban Village.

“Ironworks is another exciting development by PfP igloo, which is synonymous with delivering high-quality sustainable projects and strives to improve the communities in which its developments lie.

“We are looking forward to getting up and running with the management of this site when it is completed in 2021.”

Ironworks is the latest in a string of property management deals for Scanlans’ Leeds office, including deals for Sandmoor Gate in Alwoodley, and Ahlux House and North Crescent near the city centre.

Scanlans is based at the Thorpe Park business and retail park, where it has moved to larger offices to accommodate its growing team. The latest arrival is Bethan Fletcher, who has joined as a property management assistant.
