Firewall developer moves HQ in Leeds

SOFTWARE development firm Smoothwall has expanded its UK headquarters in Leeds.

The firm, which develops firewall and web filtering software, has taken 10,265 sq ft of space at Leeds Valley Park.

Smoothwall was founded in 2001 by George Lungley, Lawrence Manning and Richard Morrell. It has offices in Leeds, Fareham and a US office in North Carolina.

Smoothwall moves from Gelderd Road in Leeds and joins current occupants of the park, including Lowell Financial, BAE Systems, Alphabet, Arla and Capita.

The firm were advised by commercial property consultancy Bilfinger GVA.

George Lungley, chief executive at Smoothwall, said: “As a growing business Smoothwall was looking to relocate to modern premises which could cope with the demand of their growing workforce. With the addition of easy access to the motorway network, Leeds Valley Park was the ideal choice.

“The move also means that our people will be located on the same floor for the first time, with a much more open plan environment which is important as Smoothwall continues its growth journey.”

Matthew Tootell, office director at Bilfinger GVA in Leeds, said: “Smoothwall’s decision to relocate from Gelderd Road in Leeds to Leeds Valley Park has been driven by a requirement for modern premises with easy access to the motorway network.

“Bilfinger GVA is pleased to have helped Smoothwall achieve this outcome.”

Leeds Valley Park was acquired by Harbert Management Corporation (Europe) and XLB Properties from Goodman last year and were advised by CBRE & Savills.
