Health advice service offered by Pharmacy2U

PHARMACY2U, the venture that offers pharmacy products and services via the internet, has announced plans to grow via an online GP consulting service.

The Leeds-based company was established in 1999 as the UK’s first internet pharmacy.

The company is the UK’s leading NHS approved internet and mail order pharmacy and has purchased an online GP consulting business where patients can seek advice or a diagnosis without the need to visit their doctor.

Daniel Lee, managing director and founder of Pharmacy2U, said: “The new funding from Barclays has allowed us to introduce innovative services such as online GP consultations.

“This continues in our commitment to creating innovative products and services that centre on patient choice, convenience and needs.”

The company has a turnover of around £20m and the funding from Barclays has provided working capital for further growth plans as changes to the health agenda offer opportunities for the online delivery of healthcare services.

Sam Drummond, relationship director at Barclays, said: “Pharmacy2U has harnessed technology to deliver more choices for patients whilst still being able to offer specialist advice and innovative services – enabling them to compete with the high street.

“The company is growing despite a challenging economic climate thanks to the astute and strategic management team and is well positioned to retain its leading position within its chosen markets.”
