Keep development to create luxury for people and pets

MORE than 20 bedrooms are to be created as part of a £30m development after the green light was given to start work on part of a Yorkshire five-star hotel.

The Skelwith Group’s plans for the latest phase of the Raithwaite Hall Country Resort development were passed at Scarborough Borough Council’s Planning Committee meeting last week.

Skelwith is to transform the Keep at the complex into 21 new bedrooms for guests and an exclusive five-star kennel and grooming centre.

Once finished the keep will create 40 extra jobs on top of the 120 created in the main hotel.

Paul Ellis, managing director of the Skelwith Group, said: “This is the final hurdle. Wates Construction, the main contractor, is currently on-site and is halfway through the complex build programme for the main hotel, and is ready to start working on the keep immediately.

“Now that we have planning permission for the Keep it’s going to be full steam ahead, This was the last piece in the jigsaw to bring this fantastic development to fruition and to make it a reality.

“Our luxury kennel and grooming centre will give those dog owners who want to go away with their pets the opportunity to do so.

Construction of the keep will start in 2011, with the 45 bed five-star hotel, which will include a spa, fine dining restaurant, luxurious bar and conferencing facilities, all set within 80 acres of gardens and breathtaking Yorkshire countryside due to open in the summer of 2011.
