ITM Power secures project backing

ITM Power has secured a contract worth around £19,000 to help develop small scale hydrogen fuelling for cars in European and Asian markets.

It will help NextEnergy, a Detroit-based organisation that promotes alternative energy technologies, analyse how the future of hydrogen fuelling will be affected by a variety of factors including infrastructure, price and regulation.

The latest contract comes after ITM completed design work on a small scale hydrogen home refuelling device.

Dr Graham Cooley, chief executive of Sheffield-based ITM Power, said: “This contract recognises that ITM Power is best placed to provide the vital information required by the global automotive original equipment manufacturers in order for them to plan the development and roll-out of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure and fuel cell vehicles.

“This represents an ideal opportunity for the Company to continue the working relationship with the NextEnergy Center that developed during the design phase of this long term project.”

Kelly Jezierski, manager of alternative fuel based energy programmes at NextEnergy, said: “We are pleased to be progressing to the next phase of the project with ITM Power.

“This study will be used as the basis for moving to the prototype stage of the project and as the basis of our future funding applications both to the DoE and other funding bodies.”
