Yorkshire’s five star Michelin line-up

TOURISM agency Welcome to Yorkshire created a five star line up by bringing the region’s Michelin star chefs together for the first time at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Yorkshire boasts more Michelin starred restaurants than any other region outside London, and this is the first time all of its five culinary masterminds have been brought together.
Frances Atkins from The Yorke Arms near Ramsgill, Tessa Bramley from the Old Vicarage in Sheffield, Simon Gueller from The Box Tree in Ilkley, Andrew Pern from the Star Inn at Harome, and Steve Smith from The Burlington at the Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey, all took a rare trip out of their famous kitchens to gather at the Great Yorkshire Show to promote fine dining in the region.
The prestigious chefs were brought together by Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, who said: “It is fabulous that Yorkshire boasts five Michelin stars thanks to the talent gathered here today.
“This accreditation is notoriously hard to get and I am in awe of the incredible talents of these chefs. By holding this world renowned status they help put Yorkshire on the global map, bringing visitors from all over the world to our region all year round.”
Michelin stars are awarded to restaurants offering the finest cooking, regardless of cuisine style. Derek Bulmer, editor of the Michelin Guide who has sampled the fine fare at all five of Yorkshire’s starred restaurants explained: “What struck me about these five venues, apart from the exceptional cooking, was their commitment to sourcing and using local produce, and supporting their local suppliers.
“The sheer beauty of Yorkshire attracts people, and people always want good places to eat. To be spoilt by excellent food offered in a beautiful location is a perfect recipe for success.”
Mr Verity added: “Yorkshire welcomes over 90 million day visits a year and attracts more visitors overnight than London.”
Yorkshire.com the Welcome to Yorkshire website, which features all five Michelin star restaurants, has just been voted the best tourist board website in the UK.
