Dining quarter at Meadowhall takes shape

WORK has started on a £7m transformation of Meadowhall’s Oasis food court into a 61,000 ft dining quarter.
The Sheffield shopping centre’s joint owners, British Land and London & Stamford Property, are to create a formal 34,000 sq ft dining space on the upper level and a lower level totalling 27,000 sq ft featuring three new specially designed kiosks.
In addition, a mezzanine level is being created to increase the overall seating capacity at the food court.
The new Oasis Dining Quarter, which is set to be completed in October, will be host to five new restaurants, the first of which to be announced is Giraffe. The restaurant chain has signed for a 3,433sq ft unit.
Centre director Darren Pearce said: “Listening to our customers, we want to create a place that suits their many tastes, and providing a range of all day and evening destination eating options.
“The new Oasis Dining Quarter will offer a more contemporary look, and a relaxed, calming environment with a lower music volume – a haven from the bustle of the shopping malls.”
Recently opened restaurants at Meadowhall include TGI Fridays, Wagamama and Café Rouge.
Clare Juniper, asset manager for Meadowhall, said: “We are creating a more interactive and enjoyable dining experience whilst raising the standards considerably for this very important element of any retail and leisure destination and we are very excited to see how our guests will respond.”
Smith Young Partnership and Davis Coffer Lyons act on behalf of Meadowhall, while Western Ridge has represented Giraffe Concepts on its letting.
Architect on the scheme is Harris Partnership.
