Building Briefs: Baby company’s birth in Hull, LSH appointed in Scunthorpe, Deals success for Eddisons and more

YORKSHIRE baby brand, Mamas and Papas, has opened a store in Hull’s Kingston Retail Park.

The 8,000 sq ft store is the chain’s only new opening this autumn.

The brand’s move into Hull was helped by development agent Hull Forward.

Hull Forward’s chief executive, John Holmes, said: “We were glad to be able to help Mamas & Papas to identify the site that is most appropriate for their needs.

“Kingston Retail Park is the obvious choice because they will be situated alongside other highly successful stores operating in the same sector.”

Rosie Ward, Mamas & Papas regional business manager, said: “Hull is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our brand in East Yorkshire, because at present customers have to travel to York or Leeds and we want to ensure that our product is accessible in key locations.”

THE Leeds office of property agents, Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), has been appointed to market a major industrial warehouse building in Scunthorpe.

LSH, along with joint letting agents, Cooper Property Services and Knight Frank, TCP, Scunthorpehas been appointed to assist with the sale of the freehold interest of The Complete Package (TCP) site, situated on Normanby Enterprise Park.

The 18.5 acre site offers 324,887 sq ft of self-contained manufacturing and warehouse accomodation, with ancillary office space.

Rob Whatmuff, regional head of industrial and logistics agency in LSH’s Leeds office, said: “While we appreciate that market conditions are tough, this site provides an opportunity for footloose, value-for-money operators to acquire an immediately operational quality product.”

PROPERTY agents, Eddisons, has negotiated a lease on an industrial estate in Elland.

The Huddersfield office of the company has negotiated a five year lease on a 23,000 sq ft unit at Ainley Industrial Estate on behalf of client Berford Properties.

JTM Contracts, a household goods repair company, will lease the space and use it as a distribution and warehouse facility.

Eddisons has also successfully completed a number of other deals, including the 10 year lease at Viking Works in Huddersfield, on behalf on SKA Properties, and a new three year lease at Armytage Road Industrial Estate fro client Younger Holmes (Northern).

YORK construction company, Shepherd Construction, has completed work on its latest project, an innovative new school building in the North East.

Monkseaton SchoolMonkseaton High School is the first building to be fitted with pioneering light technology, designed to enhance learning.

The building is a futuristic oval shape, which means it uses less energy, and features a special fresh air ventilation system, keeping oxygen levels high to aid concentration.

The school has been built by Shepherd Construction on behalf of North Tyneside Council, after 10 years of development.

Shepherd’s construction director, Colin Sargeant, said: “This school is truly unique and has been an exciting project that we’ve delivered on time and budget. Monkseaton’s headteacher is committed to improving education through research and technologies.”

THE freehold of a North Yorkshire pub, has been acquired by its existing tenants.

The Ye Olde Sun Inn at Colton, near York, has been acquired by Ashley and Kelly McCarthy, who have leased the pub since 2004.

York solicitors, Burns & Co, advised the couple on the acquisition of the pub from Enterprise Inns.
