Historic landmark now on your smartphone

FOUNTAINS Abbey is taking advantage of cutting edge technology to provide information to visitors on the move.
The National Trust-owned property is the first to launch BluJam – a new web platform for smartphones developed by award-winning Leeds firm NetConstruct.
NetConstruct has slimmed down the attraction’s orginal multi-lingual website to create a complimentary version for iPhones and similar devices.
Fountains Abbey ordered the move after recognising the increasing demand for information from visitors on the move.
The condensed mobile version includes opening times and directions, MP3 podcasts and high quality video.
Chris Fowler, general manager of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, said: “We’re delighted that NetConstruct chose Fountains Abbey to launch its new smartphone service.
“The firm re-designed our website last year with improvements including downloads and a video so we’re very excited about this further development, which we’re sure will prove a successful addition to our web presence.”
NetConstruct managing director David Bentley said: “Many mobile users find accessing a conventional website from a handheld frustrating and often a waste of time. BluJam is the result of two years research and development and solves the problem.
“Over the last six months access from mobiles to some of our client websites has shot up by as much as 50%. In business terms BluJam represents a real step change, enabling firms to do more and better business with people on the move.”
