New FD at Shepherd Construction as it wins PFS work

YORKSHIRE building firm Shepherd Construction has appointed Mike Porter as its new finance director.

Mr Porter, who will be based at Shepherd’s York headquarters, will hold a seat on the company’s executive board and will have responsibility for finance, ICT and Shepherd’s in-house hire centre.

Mr Porter has joined from United Utilities, where he was divisional finance director.

His previous appointments include LEK Strategic Management Consultants (London).

The appointment comes as Shepherd Construction and Clugston Construction, of Scunthorpe, have been selected as two of 15 companies that have been approved by Partnerships for Schools (PFS) to bid for work to design and build Academy schools and other educational facilities.

On his appointment, Mr Porter said: “Shepherd is one of the most financially stable companies in the sector and we have dealt up front with market changes within the construction sector, creating a business model which is flexible and efficient.

“I’m now looking forward to focusing on the consistent, steady growth of our business in line with our three-year strategic growth plan.”
