Building Briefs: Redmayne in at Cyril Sweett; Litestructures delivers; Weight loss centre opens; and more

CONSTRUCTION and property consultancy Cyril Sweett has appointed James Redmayne as regional director for Leeds.

Mr Redmayne rejoins Cyril Sweett following three years at Northcroft where he managed many projects including work on two new gas turbine power plants.

His main responsibility will be to develop and deliver business in the infrastructure and civil engineering sector, with a particular emphasis on project and programme management.

Ken Wood, operations director at Cyril Sweett, said: “We are delighted to welcome James to the new enlarged group following the merger of Cyril Sweett and Nisbet last year.

“He brings vital skills to the business especially in delivering cost consultancy services which are currently in high demand in the North of England.”

In the Leeds office, there are 30 consultants who offer advice across the health, education, leisure, residential, retail/mixed use, commercial and transport sectors.

A YORKSHIRE structure specialist has supplied cutting edge infrastructure to Manchester Central Convention Complex as part of the venue’s £20m redevelopment programme.

Wakefield-based Litestructures delivered a complex rigging and staging package designed to offer a versatile staging strategy for the complex’s conference and gala functions.

Manchester Central required a staging system that would offer a variety of configurations, from performance staging to exhibition areas.

The redevelopment of Manchester Central focused on creating new and extended foyer areas to the iconic grade two-listed Central Hall, improving the venue’s facilities and boosting the destination’s appeal as one of the UK’s major convention and exhibition complexes.

THE Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe, visited Donisthorpe Hall luxury care home in Leeds to officially open the new £2.2m Woodlands Unit.

As the third phase of the ongoing redevelopment of Donisthorpe Hall, the Woodlands Unit is a luxury new build wing featuring 21 special needs bedrooms, three lounges, dining room, kitchen, three residential care units, top-floor offices and  landscaped gardens.

Soon after the opening of the Woodlands Unit Tolent completed work on phase five in which an existing two-storey residential care facility has been refurbished to provide a new lounge, dining room, kitchen, sluice rooms, and 12 bedrooms, each with assisted bathroom.
 
The Woodlands Unit development has been successfully completed despite a setback when the original building contractor went into administration. Tolent Construction took over and finished the project.

FORTLANDS, represented by Savills, has let Unit G1 at Clarendon House in Harrogate to private occupier Karen Fritz.

The new weight loss therapy centre, trading as Hypoxi, has taken a 972 sq ft unit on a five year lease.

Developed by Austrian sports scientists, the Hypoxi-trainer is likened to an exercise bike within a pressure chamber. It helps to reshape the hips, thighs and buttocks and banish the appearance of cellulite.

Steve Henderson, associate director at Savills, said: “Clarendon House offers high quality space with flexible unit size.

Hypoxi joins a mix of tenants which includes Panacea Spa and Up and Running.”

Karen Fritz was unrepresented.

THORNFIELD Properties, represented by Savills, has let a unit at the Pavilion Shopping Centre in Thornaby to Butterwick Hospice Retail.

The charity has taken Unit 3 totalling 1,772 sq ft. Butterwick Hospice Retail will pay £22, 500 per annum on a 15-year lease.

Sanderson Wetherall acted jointly with Savills on behalf of Thornfield Properties.

Butterwick Hospice Retail was unrepresented.
