Yorkshire entrepreneurs launch price comparison website for freight services

TWO Yorkshire entrepreneurs are looking to emulate the success of consumer price comparison websites with a business-to-business site offering price comparisons on freight transport services.

Cargo-solv.com is the brainchild of Ilkley-based Paul Wilson, a long-time user of freight services, and Howard Mould, who has more than 24 years experience as a provider of freight services.

Mr Wilson said: “The freight transport market is enormous and whether a business needs to transport pallets halfway across the world or a small parcel a few miles down the road, obtaining quotes can be such a slow and time-consuming business.

“Cargo-solv.com enables buyers of freight services to more easily source the best deals by providing them with access to instant online quotes from leading domestic and international transport providers, freight forwarders and logistics companies.”

More than 30 freight companies are already signed up to deliver instant quotes via cargo-solv.com and the number is increasing every day.

Mr Wilson added: “The potential for cargo-solv.com is tremendous. We have already been approached by an established price comparison site that is interested in adding freight rates into its existing offering. At the moment, though, we are keen to take the business forward ourselves.”

Buyers enter their shipment details and instantly receive a list of quotes that details cost and transit time and can be sorted by the criterion that helps the user to identify their preferred quote.

An additional services field allows the buyer to see further benefits that different companies can provide whilst a performance rating will highlight those freight providers who offer a good service.

Buyers can view a specific quote in detail and request confirmation through the system from the freight provider. All subsequent transactions are between the freight provider and user, with no commissions or additional charges for either party.

Over the last 12 months the two businessmen have been busy recruiting freight companies to participate in the venture.

Mr Mould added: “The obvious benefit for freight providers is that cargo-solv.com will generate additional sales leads for them. The other big benefit is that the system saves them time and effort by preparing quotes automatically on their behalf. All the freight providers have to do when they register is input their rate structure and service details, including routes, transit times, cargo types handled and so on.”
