Famous London restaurant plans Harrogate site

Famous Covent Garden restaurant The Ivy is planning to launch in Harrogate.

The restaurant brand, known for its celebrity clientele in London, is launching a brasserie at 7-9 Parliament Street in the North Yorkshire town.

Currently home to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Parliament Street Cafe, if approved, the Victorian building will undergo internal demolition and remodelling with a rear terrace.

The Ivy said it had chosen Harrogate for its latest site, due to open later in 2017, the 100th anniversary of the opening of its Soho restaurant.

It said it would complement the “Harrogate institution” Bettys Tearooms, which is up the road from the proposed site.

Lateral Property Group has applied to Harrogate Borough Council to change the use of the 9,800 sq ft site to a restaurant.

Planning statements were prepared by Tullimore Properties and Troia (UK) Restaurants.

The Ivy Collection brand has additional sites in Chelsea, Kensington, Marlow and Bristol.

The York Press has reported that the Ivy has also submitted applications to the City of York Council for a site at St Helen’s Square in the city.
