5 things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

Funny Girl
National treasure Sheridan Smith, along with the cast of Funny Girl, arrives in Bradford this weekend at the Alhambra Theatre. Funny Girl follows the story of Franny Brice, whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn musical hall singer to Broadway star. The show also boasts some of the most iconic songs from theatre history, including People and Don’t Rain On My Parade. Find out more here.

York Pride
York’s Pride festival takes place on Saturday in the city centre. The free celebration of the LGBT community will bring a whole range of events for the whole family to enjoy. The Pride parade departs from York Minister at 11.45am and arrives at the Knavesmire for 1pm. There will also be food and drink to enjoy, a fun fair and a host of acts taking to the stage. Sheffield Doc Fest
The UK’s leading documentary festival kicks off in Sheffield this weekend and is set to celebrate the art of documentary and non-fiction storytelling. Over 150 films are set to be shown at the festival, which is taking place until June 14. There are also set to be a whole range of talks and discussions to head along to, with Sir Lenny Henry, Stacey Dooley and Louis Theroux all taking to the stage on Sunday. Find out more here.

Ode to Leeds
Ode to Leeds takes to the stage at West Yorkshire Playhouse this weekend. The show follows the story of five young poets from Leeds who have been selected to compete in a prestigious poetry festival in New York. As the competition draws closer, the poets discover not just their voices but also what they must find the courage to say, but the determination to win the competition threatens everything. World Triathlon Series
The Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds 2017 returns to the city for the second time this weekend for the fourth leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series. The event will see the world’s top triathletes compete in the competition. The event will also provide 5,000 amateur triathletes with the opportunity to compete on much of the same course.
