Law firm’s giant Monopoly board returns for 10th anniversary challenge

Rob McKie, partner - DLA Piper and Mistress Cutler Julie Edwards start off the 2017 Monopoly challenge

Sheffield city centre was once again turned into a giant Monopoly board by law firm DLA Piper as teams from organisations across the city battled it out to raise funds for the Mistress Cutler’s Challenge for the 10th consecutive year.

Fifteen teams from businesses across South Yorkshire took part in a full-size Monopoly game around the city’s streets.  With Mistress Cutler Julie Edwards starting the game, the teams rolled their first dice at DLA Piper’s office and then raced around the city, visiting as many places on the special edition Sheffield city board as possible by foot or using public transport, which was sponsored by Stagecoach Buses.

After collecting an impressive $8,280 DLA Piper dollars in two hours, the team from South Yorkshire Police were crowned champions by the Mistress Cutler.

The challenge raised nearly £5000 for the Children’s Hospital Charity and Cavendish Cancer Care, which are the Mistress Cutler’s Challenge chosen charities of 2017.

Rob McKie, partner at DLA Piper, who arranged this year’s challenge, said: “As always we had fantastic support from the local business community.  The Monopoly Challenge  has developed into a well-loved initiative, but with it being our 10th anniversary we decided to add some new rules to the game.  These included searching for the ‘Monopoly man’ who was hidden somewhere in the city centre and locating Monopoly balloons.

“We had great fun, but more importantly we are raising funds for some really important charities and this year we are proud to support the Children’s Hospital charity and Cavendish Cancer Care. We would like to thank everyone who took part in helping us raise a great sum of money for this year’s Mistress Cutler charity.”
