The Dakota Deluxe in Leeds is this week celebrating its sixth-month anniversary since opening in Bond Court. Andrew Creese – General Manager, at the hotel, shares his views on all things Yorkshire after moving from Scotland to God’s Own County.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

My favourite place has to be Ilkley – escaping the city, wandering the boutiques and finding a local pub.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

York Races and a meal at the Crab and Lobster

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had?

For me I enjoy the Foundry – it’s consistent. Phil and his team meet you with a bundle of personality every time, without fail.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

Being a Scot who has been adopted by Yorkshire, it has to be deep pockets!

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

With a population of over 5.2M it’s a county larger than Scotland, and Yorkshire finished 12th in the Olympic medals table.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

When Yorkshire hosted the start of the Tour de France, and the subsequent Tour de Yorkshire events – I enjoyed seeing how the county takes pride in showing the world what we have to offer.

First experience of Yorkshire (for non-Yorkies)

Elland Road – Leeds V Cardiff in 2006. There were a few more attendees than what I was used to at Easter Road. Leeds Leeds Leeds!

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

The odour at the Jorvik Centre has stayed with me since visiting as an 8 year old.

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

Manchester’s tram and road networks.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

I’m still exploring and am yet to be disappointed! The county seems to have everything.
