First Maturing Malt for Yorkshire distillery

Hunmanby distillery Spirit of Yorkshire has announced the first of its Maturing Malt pre-releases.
It will form part of the firm’s Distillery Project range, with only 2,000 individually numbered bottles available.
The business offered a five-day pre-order period for cask owners and newsletter subscribers – which resulted in over 700 bottles being sold, which “exceeding all expectations.”
Cask selection has been at the forefront of the release and the owners say they are delighted with the resulting spirit. They said: “It is a marriage of our two-spirit styles drawn from 5 casks filled in July and September 2016. Although it’s just over one year old we have a maturing malt spirit displaying some truly delicious characteristics, with a deep natural colour and wonderful flavour.”
As well as launching the first Maturing Malt, Spirit of Yorkshire has also launched a limited edition glass.
Tom Mellor, co-founder and distiller, added: “Making a whisky from scratch requires curiosity, commitment and, most of all, time. We’ve invested heavily in all three, taking the best of tradition and following our instincts.”
