£2.5m M&E project completed at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital staff accommodation scheme

A £2.5m mechanical and electrical project has been completed at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.

G&H Building Services, appointed by the main contractor Kier, used Revit 3D modelling to design all building services for the new key worker facility.

The accommodation is for doctors and nurses training and working in the hospital.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust’s development has 220 properties with 96 en-suite rooms and 124 one-bed apartments.

G&H Building Services installed a range of electrical works including a high voltage sub-station, low voltage services, LED lighting, fire alarms, voice and data, full access controls and CCTV.

Mechanical services included hot and cold water supplies, extraction, heating, ventilation and air conditioning to the central hub area.

Neil Blunt, contracts manager at G&H Building Services, said: “Our brief from Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and Kier was to create modern living quarters that would help them recruit and retain key medical workers.

“The previous staff accommodation was built in the late 1980s and was in need of updating so doctors, nurses and other staff could live in a comfortable place and enjoy modern features.

“The new facility has the most up-to-date mechanical and electrical systems and our work – which spanned eight months – was carried out without any disruption to the live, operating hospital.”

The total cost of the project was £16.4m.
