Brewery’s expansion enables takeover of historic city centre pub
Leeds-based brewery Nomadic Beers said that Bradford’s Rose and Crown has become the first pub addition to its business.
In 2017, the Rose and Crown re-opened after extensive renovation as part of the Grade II listed Sunbridge Wells complex.
The pub had been managed by the team behind the underground Sunbridge Wells attraction, but as of 12 August 2019, the pub will be operated by Nomadic Beers.
Katie Marriott, owner of the brewery, said: “We’d contacted Sunbridge Wells about having our beers on in some of the bars, when Paul Gallagher, who looks after the whole complex, got in touch and asked if we’d like to fully manage the Rose and Crown instead.
“I spoke to our ‘Beer Evangelist’ Mike Hampshire about the idea and discussed partnering together to take the Rose and Crown on as part of our own brand.”
Hampshire, who is Director of the company’s newly created Nomadic Tap Rooms, said: “It’s fantastic to be taking on such a historic venue in the heart of Bradford.
“It’s a chance to help Bradford drive towards it’s potential of a great city centre destination and we can showcase Nomadic Beers in a market we haven’t had much exposure in yet”
“The pub is free of tie, so as well as permanent Nomadic Beers lines, we can feature and support other local, small independent drinks producers and bring something new to Bradford.
“We’ll also be creating local jobs with a long-term plan of giving opportunity to young people just beginning their working career and those with learning difficulties.
Gallagher said: “We’ve been looking for field experts to take on each of our venues in Sunbridge Wells. I liked the Nomadic brand and I think it will work really well with the Rose and Crown.”
The Rose and Crown forms part of the Sunbridge Wells complex in the Underground Quarter of Bradford City Centre. The venue can be accessed via entrances on Aldermanbury, Sunbridge Road and Millergate.
