Final call for entrants for Top Tech: Yorkshire

Richard Faulkner

The Leeds office of national law firm Mills & Reeve has today issued a final call for entries to this year’s Top Tech Yorkshire which closes on Friday.

Top Tech: Yorkshire 2019, in partnership with TheBusinessDesk.com, is a celebration Yorkshire’s cutting-edge companies which are putting the region on the map as a growing hub for technological development and innovation.

Top Tech: Yorkshire is open to companies which have developed world-leading technology, are disrupting markets across all industries and whose technology and services are helping others become leaders in their fields across the region.

It is looking for companies across all sub-sectors including Healthtech and Medtech, whose innovations are transforming the delivery of healthcare and the health and wellbeing of patients, and in education where EdTech businesses are improving the performance of our educational institutions, teachers and students.

Judges also want to hear from companies in the FinTech sector where technological advancements are revolutionising the delivery of financial services; in Agritech where technology is being used to solve problems in agriculture, farming, food production and distribution, or PropTech companies who are changing the face of the real estate sector in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Entrants will be judged on technological innovation, leadership, growth and financial performance, client service and delivery and employee engagement.

The judging panel is made up of people who live and breathe the technology sector, and includes Richard Faulkner, managing director, technology banking at Silicon Valley Bank, who said: “As a Silicon Valley based bank, we know many US investors are currently looking at UK tech but they find it hard to remotely identify suitable investments, so the Mills & Reeve Top Tech: Yorkshire is a great way to showcase your business to global investors and future clients.

“Many Yorkshire companies also appear less keen on self-promotion compared to other regions, so I would really encourage ambitious Yorkshire technology companies to apply.”

Peter Rowe

Fellow judge Peter Rowe, consultant at WH Ireland, said: “Although only in its second year, Top Tech: Yorkshire is already recognised as an opportunity to showcase some of the best company talent across the region.

“Benefiting both innovative early stage opportunities to the well-established and growing organisations. Entering the programme opens the business and individuals up to a wide variety of opportunities and networks.

“With increased exposure comes recognition and, with a partnership programme including the Northern Powerhouse, a business may well find access to appropriate funding, all important partner networks, talent pools and a growing customer base.

“Yorkshire is a hotbed of innovation and we are lucky enough to have some of the brightest minds and companies developing tomorrow’s solutions today. Helping those opportunities and talent to be recognised beyond our boundary is a major contributing factor of Top Tech: Yorkshire.”

Judge Heather Niven, business and innovation consultant, added: “I would recommend applying to be in the Top Tech Yorkshire to raise the profile of your company, shout about your talent and innovation and get more business!”

Other judges include:

Chelsea Boothroyd, engagement manager, Nexus

Paul Johnson, partner in the corporate team at the Leeds office of Mills & Reeve

Richard Carter, managing director, Equiniti Credit Services

Stuart Clarke, festival director, Leeds Digital Festival

Mel Kanarek, director and co-founder, Sheffield Digital

Entries will close on 4 October. The companies who made it into the Top Tech: Yorkshire will be revealed at the launch event on November 7 at The Shears Yard in Leeds.
