Larger premises for growing furniture designer and manufacturer

A Leeds furniture designer and manufacturer has moved to new, larger premises following a bumper two years that have seen its commercial and ecclesiastical work more than double.
Dovetailors, which started out as a small bespoke designer maker in North Yorkshire in 2005, has relocated to West Leeds Industrial Park in Pudsey from its former workshop in Farsley.
In 2019 the firm recruited two new team members, a trainee and an experienced maker, bringing the head count of the creative and production team to nine.
Creative director David Wilson attributed recent growth to an increasing reputation for quality wood component manufacturing and specialist church furniture design along with investment in machinery, which saw the installation of a second CNC machine in the workshop last year.
Wilson said: “Taking the decision to invest in a second CNC machine has undoubtedly increased our capabilities and the capacity of the workshop, making us a cost-effective component maker for high end British furniture designers and allowing us to tackle even more complex designs.
“The new space will provide a much better working environment for our team, room for expansion and better accessibility for commercial deliveries and collections.”
Dovetailors has recently completed its latest church furniture project, an altar for Newport Cathedral, and has started work on its next – choir stalls for Croydon Minster. The company has completed projects for Wakefield and Sheffield Cathedrals, Mirfield Monastery and Liverpool Parish Church among others.
Its other main area of work is wood component design, prototyping and manufacturing for a wide range of businesses, including furniture companies.
