Waste management company goes for growth with multi-million pound funding
Sheffield-based Arthurs Skips, part of Arthurs Waste Management Group, has expanded both its premises and facilities with the support of a £3m funding package from NatWest and Lombard Asset Finance.
The firm has used the finance to buy a five-acre site next to its Materials Recycling Facility on Parkwood Road in Neepsend, bringing the company’s total operational footprint to more than 20 acres.
The additional space will allow Arthurs Skips to increase its processing capabilities. It will now look to invest in the latest waste processing technology, including the potential creation of a small-scale energy from waste facility.
As part of this expansion, Arthurs Skips has also purchased an aggregate wash plant with the capacity to process over 100 tonnes of material per hour. The material from the company’s recycling activities is used as feedstock for the new plant, which until its installation was being sent to landfill.
Its along way from the firms beginning in 1994 with just one vehicle and two skips. It now has more than 30 vehicles and employs 50 staff.
James Hartley, director at Arthurs Skips said: “As one of the largest skip hire and waste management firms in South Yorkshire, we are continually looking at how we can expand to offer our customers the best service possible. By growing our existing site by another five acres, we can now process more waste in less time.
“Sustainability has always been a priority for the firm and we want the ethos of the wash plant – recycle and reuse – to run through everything we do. We hope to work with the University of Sheffield to create a product from the waste produced by the plant so even that is utilised.”
William Islip and Martin Gorman, NatWest relationship directors, Phillipa Bagshaw, NatWest credit delivery director and Ben Tomlinson, Lombard Asset Finance senior relationship manager, worked with Arthurs Skips on the deal.
Islip said: “We have supported Arthurs Skips since its inception and it has grown to become a successful family-run business with customers across Sheffield and further afield.
“The firm will significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill in South Yorkshire and we are proud to support the company’s growth and sustainability plans.”
