Acquisition deal combines expertise of electrical contractors

The skills of two Hull-based electrical contractors have been combined, as expanding firm N&P Group has completed the purchase of Lee Hood Electrical.

The move sees 15 members of staff transferred over to N&P, taking its own workforce up to 50 in total as the company continues to advance into new markets alongside its extensive work supporting the modular building sector.

Willerby Road-based Lee Hood Plumbing and Heating Ltd, a family owned business which has been established since 1995, will continue to operate its successful plumbing operation separately as its own entity, with 22 members of staff.

However, the two companies say they will now work together on a number of contracts to offer a ‘full mechanical and electrical package’ to clients.

“This has been a natural step for each of our businesses,” said Lee Hood.

“We were initially a plumbing and heating specialist only and we established an electrical division which itself has grown in recent years and secured many excellent contracts.

“In some ways that side of the business grew a little too much and the contracts were becoming more demanding.

“It made sense for us to place our focus back fully onto the mechanical side of our business, and for N&P to benefit from taking on the expertise of our team, as well as a fleet of vehicles.

“I believe this will bring benefits to both businesses in the long run, as we won’t be competing with one another, and we can actually now start combining our services on larger jobs to provide a complete service.”

Established in 2003, N&P Group has grown into a leading electrical building services contractor, working on educational, healthcare, retail and industrial developments, using its extensive knowledge of the modular buildings market.

In recent years it has secured many six and seven figure contracts for large scale commercial electrical installations, including fire, security and climate control systems.

Previous clients have included the likes of Integra Buildings Limited, Catfoss Ltd and LendLease Group Ltd

Paul Gray, director of N&P, said the addition of 15 new staff to the business will enable it to strengthen its service to the modular sector, and explore potential new markets.

“This is a really positive step for us as a business, as the electrical team Lee had established have an excellent reputation and are known for the quality of their work and their reliability,” he said.

“Lee’s electrical division became a successful business in its own right and it is rare that you get the opportunity to add some very experienced and skilled people to your business, which is what we have done with this deal.

“We have an immediate new team of office staff and field engineers which will increase our capacity and extend our ability to fulfil more substantial contracts.

“We’ve been working in the same industries for many years and there have no doubt been countless where we have either pitched for work on the same developments. That won’t happen now, and we’ll be working together.”
