Tool hire firm opens its third branch in former social club

A tool hire business has achieved its latest goal as its third branch opens in the Humber Region.

GoHire is launching a new branch at a former social club on Chamberlain Road in Hull. The purchase which completed in December is GoHire’s East Hull depot, now covering both wings of the City, creating five new jobs in the area.

After the success of its Goulton Street site in the west of Hull, the business is expanding into East Hull as the building’s refurbishment is complete.

The new site has transformed social club, Meyer’s – better known as Sully’s after the previous owner and rugby league legend, Clive Sullivan – and comes as part of an ambitious growth strategy for GoHire.

Entrepreneur, Sally Wray, said: “Since buying this business in 2015, I’ve had a strong vision, with aspirations to expand across the region, bringing the brand and service to more customers.

“We opened our second branch, GoHire Grimsby in November and despite the challenges the pandemic has presented, it has been a triumph.

“Chamberlain Road had actually been on the cards since the beginning of 2020. Progress with the purchase was slow as planning approvals took time.

“But in all honestly it feels like things were delayed for a good reason, as the new depot in Grimsby fell into my lap in September and the acquisition of Caspian Tool and Plant Hire in Grimsby actually completed first.

“Securing an East Hull depot always seemed like the natural progression for us.

“We wanted to provide the same great service to more customers in the city and we’ve had a great response since day one.

“After the uncertainty of 2020, seeing our plans fall into place feels an even greater achievement.”

“Business dipped for us at the start of lockdown, as it did for most, but things soon picked up again and the end of the year was our best quarter, ever.

“It’s thanks to the continued support of our customers and staff that this has all been possible.

“We have recruited an experienced hire team who will have a period of training to get up to scratch with our systems and experiencing the company culture, before opening the doors in April.

“The business model employs managers who also become part-owner in the business.”

Approximately 95% of the company’s business comes from trade customers in construction and renewables and a small proportion is from the residential market, as DIY enthusiasts improve their homes.
