£25m investment leads to latest in series of store openings for retailer

Retailer Bensons for Beds is occupying a new store in Huddersfield, as part of its transformation following £25m worth of new investment a year ago.

The bed and mattress seller has taken a lease on unit E1, Leeds Road Retail Park, Huddersfield, where its neighbours include B&Q and Wren Kitchens.

The store opens on 1 October at 10am. It has nearly 7,000 sq ft of space on the ground floor, with nearly 6,000 sq ft on the mezzanine, and it will employ six members of staff.

It has been designed to showcase a full range of beds and mattresses on offer from brands including Slumberland, iGel, Tempur and Sealy.

And the shop is larger than the nearby Bensons store it replaces, which the business shared with Harveys until June last year when Bensons became a standalone company.

The move is another step in the transformation of Bensons following the restructuring deal in 2020.

Managing director for retail, Alan Williams, said: “The store is in a great location and will allow us to display our best ranges more effectively and make sure customers make the right choice to help them sleep well and wake up in a good place.”

The store will be run by manager Tony O’Neil who has been with the business for 10 years at stores including Leeds and Wigan.
