Energy technology business powers up partnership

Powerhouse Energy Group, which is commercialising hydrogen production from waste plastic and used tyres has provided an update on the first facility which will use its DMG technology.

The development which will be based at Peel NRE’s Protos site in Cheshire is expected to become fully operational in 2023, with the Bingley-headquartered business stating that this remains it’s priority.

The business has also established the special purpose vehicle (SPV) Protos Plastics to Hydrogen No. 1 Limited, with its UK partner Peel NRE. The SPV is developing the plant and will own rights to the first project at the Protos site.

Alongside the development of the new facility Peel NRE has also submitted a planning application for a complimentary Plastic Park at Protos last month which would provide for further materials recovery and plastics sorting, together with recycling activities.

In addition to this first site Peel NRE has also submitted a planning application for a second facility at Rothesay Dock on the north bank of the River Clyde, West Dunbartonshire.

As a result of the progress and the continued commitment from both Powerhouse Energy Group and Peel to work collaboratively towards the delivery of a pipeline of DMG facilities in the UK, an extensions to the date of termination within the Collaboration Agreement has been extended along with Peel NRE’s exclusivity option end date to 31 August 2022.
