Call for brownfield housing site developers to come forward

West Yorkshire Combined Authority is calling for applications from brownfield housing site developers to help deliver more homes in the region.

It follows the Government’s Levelling Up White Paper announcement in February 2022, a £22m award being offered to its Brownfield Housing Fund programme.

This is in addition to the previous £66m funds made available in July 2020.

As part of the programme, brownfield sites that would usually require too much work to be financially viable could access potential support.

Tracy Brabin, mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “Securing further funding from the Brownfield Housing Fund is a real boost for housing in West Yorkshire, as it will see a range of sites developed that would otherwise remain derelict or un-utilised. There is a vast amount of brownfield land across West Yorkshire that needs to be developed and we want to hear from anyone who thinks they may have sites that could benefit from a share of this funding.

“Unlocking under-utilised and run-down land and transforming it into well-connected neighbourhoods that deliver much-needed affordable housing, is central to my pledge to deliver 5000 affordable and sustainable homes for the people of West Yorkshire. I will continue to work with Government to make this a reality and benefit people across West Yorkshire.”
