Expanding supermarket chain reveals draft plans for new store

Discount supermarket chain, Lidl GB, has drawn up draft plans to build a new branch at Monks Cross, in York.
The business is inviting the local community to consult on the proposals, ahead of submitting a planning application to City of York Council.
The plans include the redevelopment of the former TK Maxx site, off Monks Cross Drive, into a modern Lidl store. A new drive-thru unit is also proposed at the corner of the site, with an operator to be revealed in due course.
If approved, the multi-million pound investment would aim to create around 40 new jobs for the area and increase local shopping choice.
The supermarket would feature a 15,700 sq ft sales area an in-store bakery and customer toilets. It will also have 176 car parking spaces along with two rapid electric vehicle charging points, with potential to increase this number according to demand.
A spokesman for Lidl GB said: “We hope that as many people as possible are able to participate in this public consultation. We look forward to sharing our plans and are excited to receive feedback from local residents.”
The planned supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn investment across the country in 2021 and 2022.
